The Expanding Ocean

The ripples, like dimples, couched in the face
the glimmers, like pimples, stand out but not in disgrace
The waves wander forth and back, up, down, to and from
The water already is, but the sea struggles to become
Ever greater, larger than before
Struggling, pushing with gentle groans against the shore
Bargaining incessantly with the nordering sand
To add to its being, to be the sea plus an "and..."
"And what?" ask the sand
As it unnoticeably takes a stand
Do you want an extra piece of earth, to cover another strand
"I don't know," replies the sea, "but sitting here is rather bland"
If I would idly sit like a stagnant pond
Without searching, beyond my limits, in the great beyond
My water would become pale, I would squalidly frown
If my insides were not constantly jiggling up and down
So I wave at the shore, licking the rocks
The tastes I find vary, sometimes they shock
Would I like to integrate this one, to make it part of me
Without the inside-outside struggle I'd never see
What could be added to spice the platter
of my balanced and soothing delicate patter
The sound that crashes mightily against the rocks
Or alternately rolls ashore comfortably like fresh socks
On the feet of those who have come to me to relax
To unburden their minds, to take the strain off their backs
They too push ashore fighting an internal war
Thinking do I have enough inside, should I push for more
Can I discover more inside
Something that will fill my Maker with pride
Look up at the stars swimming in schools
Reflecting the constellations of fish gleaming in the pools
From them I can siphon inspiration from a distance
Since they mimic my own existence
Their influence beams down their numbers astound
Looking up at them you might almost drown
But I'm still standing on the ground safe and sound
Sitting, heart wide open, by the sea where I've found
Myself watching mesmerized as the tide rolls
Whispering knowledgeably like a cadre of souls
Who cherish and share a guarded secret
While dancing along the sea shell sandy carpet
What is the message, what are they saying
It's a tune so beautiful you don't even have to sing
To experience the tranquility of its truth
To savor the sensation that succulently sooths
Why only be, why settle for who you are
Bearing your self as an unchanging scar
Place your feet in the sea, feel its vibrations
You are part of the same creation
Let it wash you until you feel at home
Realize, with confirmation, in this struggle you're not alone
Rise like the waves! Push against the shore
Dare your self to become ever more.
